Braised Chicken with Dates


2 pounds chicken breast halves, thighs, and drumsticks
1/2 tablespoon all purpose flour
olive oil
1 pounds shallots (about 5 large), peeled
a few slices ginger
1.5 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, divided
10 dates, pitted, halved


Sprinkle chicken with salt, flour. Brown chicken in batches in heavy pan over medium-high heat. Set aside.
Scoop 2 tablespoons of fat from pan to pot, medium heat. Add shallots, sauté until golden, about 6 minutes. Add ginger, stir.
Add broth and 2 tablespoons lemon juice, high heat to boil, cover, low heat simmer, about 15 minutes.
Add chicken, bring to boil over medium heat.
Cover, medium-low heat simmer until fully cooked, about 20 minutes.
Remove chicken, thicken juice in pot, add dates and 1 tablespoons lemon juice, simmer about 2 minutes.
Pour sauce and dates over chicken.
