Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

2 cups sugar
2 sticks butter, softened
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs, beaten
2 tsp vanilla
5 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
2 tsp baking powder

Instructions

Cream butter and sugar.
Add oil, then eggs, then vanilla.
Sift flour, salt, cream of tartar, and backing powder together.
Add to wet ingredients.
Chill at least 1 hour.
Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts, and place on a greased cookie sheet - do not crowd.
Flatten with fork dipped in sugar, making a criss-cross pattern.
Sprinkle with colored sugar.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes - do not brown.
