The Lasagne

Ingredients

1 1/2 lb. ground beef (80/20)
1 lb. breakfast sausage (J.C. Potters Mild or Jimmy Dean)
2 teaspoons kosher salt
4 cloves garlic cloves crushed and chopped
1/2 teaspoons fresh ground pepper
1 (No. 2 1/2 can) diced stewed tomatoes (3 1/2 cups)
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 Package spaghetti sauce mix (McCormick)
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 medium to large onion diced
2 packages sliced mozzarella cheese
1/2 pound cottage cheese drained
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper seeds if you desire to have it spicy.

Instructions

Add ground beef and sausage into a large skillet. Mix well with a wooden spoon blending while browning. Add salt, garlic, pepper, turmeric, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook slowly uncovered until brown, about 10 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce,and spaghetti sauce mix. Stir and cover and simmer 30 minutes. Meanwhile, cook Lasagne as directed on package until firm but not hard. Drain and rinse. Into an 8x12x2 baking dish spoon 1/3 of the meat sauce, cover with strips of lasagne, then slices of mozzarella cheese and spoon fulls of cottage cheese. Repeat layers, ending in meat sauce. Top with a generous portion of the parmesan cheese. Bake covered with foil in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until bubbly. Serves 6-8 generously.
