Red Cake (Original)

Ingredients

1-1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 Tablespoon red food color
2 Tablespopons cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch salt

Frosting:
1 cup milk
1/2 cup flour
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sugar

Instructions

Cream first 5 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into two greased 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cool. Frost.

For Frosting:
Cook milk and flour until thick. Let cool. Add remaining ingredients and beat until spreading consistency.
