Twinkie Cake
Ingredients
CAKE:1 yellow cake mix
1 pkg (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
* Use chocolate cake and pudding for a chocolate version
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
4 eggs
FILLING:
5 Tblsp all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
Beat cake mix, pudding mix, and shortening on low speed until crumbly.Add water and eggs; beat on medium for 2 minutes.
Pour into greased and floured 13x9 inch pan.
Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Combine flour and milk in a sauce pan until smooth.
Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
Cool milk mixture completely.
Cool cake for 10 minutes; invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in milk mixture, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
Split cooled cake into 2 horizontal layers.
Spread filling over bottom layer, and replace top layer.
