Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients
2 cups self-rising flour1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon melted crisco lard
butter
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease small iron skillet with crisco and set aside. Place flour in mixing bowl. Pour in buttermilk; add melted lard and gently work together with spoon until dough starts to come together; add more flour or buttermilk if necessary. Place dough onto wax paper generously dusted with flour; and gently work it together with your hands, until it's not so tacky you can pinch off pieces to place in skillet; do not overwork or buscuits will be tough. Pinch off small pieces (about the size of 2 tablespoons) and roll into ball; place in skillet and gently pat down; repeat until skillet is full. Brush tops with butter and bake until lightly brown. From my grandmother Barbara's kitchen!
