Classic Sloppy Joes !
Ingredients
1 tablespoon vegetable oil1 small onion, chopped
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1 pound lean ground beef
1 1/2 cups Heinz® Tomato Ketchup
1 tablespoon Heinz® Worcestershire Sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 sandwich buns
Instructions
Heat oil in a large frying pan set over medium-high heat. Saute onions and green pepper for 5 minutes.2. Add beef to the pan. Cook, stirring until browned, about 5 to 10 minutes. Drain off fat.
3. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Serve on sandwich buns.
Twists:
Twist 1: For burger-appeal, jazz-up Sloppy Joes with additional toppings such as shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, grated cheese, sour cream or ranch dressing.
Twist 2: For a meat variation, use lean ground chicken or pork instead of beef.
Twist 3: For a Veggie boosted Joe, stir in 1 cup each shredded carrot and chopped mushrooms.
Twist 4: For a high fibre alternative, try whole-wheat pitas or rolls instead of sandwich buns.
Twist 5: For a chunkier Joe, use Heinz Chili Sauce, Chunky with Sweet Peppers instead of ketchup.
Twist 6: For a smokey-flavoured Joe, use one of the Heinz BBQ Sauces instead of ketchup.
