Cabbage Roll Stew
Nothing like cabbage rolls, but they are not fun to make and this stew is all of the same ingredients and flavors with out all the work.
Ingredients1 large head of cabbage chunked up or 2 small heads of cabbage.
2 onions chopped
2 lbs of ground beef
1 can of spaghetti sauce
1 can of tomato soup
1 can of diced tomato
1 1/2 cups of COOKED white rice.
2 cups of water. I used the water to swish out the cans to get every last drop.
Seasonings: salt, red pepper, rosemary, garlic, cinnamon, Italian seasonings, oregano, splenda, basil, and paprika. ALL to taste.
InstructionsBrown ground beef and drain.
Add cabbage and onions and canned items.
Sprinkle in seasonings. I would use at least 1 Tbsp of salt and splenda to start. 1 tsp of each of the other ingredients. You'll need more to taste as it cooks.
Cover dutch oven with lid and simmer for an few hours stirring and tasting as needed. Add rice after stew is almost done.
Serve hot with corn bread. Can be great with mashed potatoes. But the corn bread is lighter.
