Mom's Apple Pie
Ingredients
Tried and liked7 c. apples, peeled, pared and sliced
(I use Cortland apples or a mixture of Cortland, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious) Approx 1 med apple equals one cup. This time I used 3 lg Cortland, 1 lg Granny Smith and 1 med Golden Delicious.
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 c sugar
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter
Instructions
Mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.Mix with apples.
Crust:
1 c flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 c shortning
1/4 c milk
Toss apples in lemon juice. Use pastry blender to blend four, salt and shortening together until crumbled. Add milk.
Stir with fork before rolling out crust.
Crust is enough for double-crust pie.
Line 10" pie plate with half of crust. Add mixed ingredients and dot with butter. Place second half of crust over top.
Bake for 45-50 minutes at 425 degrees.
