Old Fashioned Bread Pudding
Ingredients
1 1/2 C. diced stale bread3 C. milk, scalded
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 C sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 C raisens
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Grease a 1 1/2 qt. casserole or baking dish and place bread in it.
Pour scalded milk over this.
Combine eggs, sugar, salt, cinnamon and raisens.
Add to bread and milk and mix well.
Place casserole in a pan of water and bake, uncovered, until firm, or about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Serve hot or cold.
Eleanor Severson's Vanilla Sauce for Bread Pudding:
1 C. sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1 C. water
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp nutmeg (Eleanor did not use the nutmeg)
Mix sugar, flour, and butter. Add boiling water. Cook until it thickens. Then add vanilla (and nutmeg if you wish).
