Quass Burgers
Ingredients
1 lb ground beefBrown in 2 tbsp fat and simmer.
Add:
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp water
3/5 bottle of catsup
(1950 year of recipe, only one size bottle that was glass and much smaller than today's bottles)
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 c onion, chopped
1/2 c celery
1/2 tsp dry mustard
salt and pepper
Instructions
Simmer. It is important not to overheat this because of brown sugar in recipe. Overheating causes brown sugar to get burnt taste.This recipe was served at Keystone Community Schools for decades. Recipe was created by Leona Wilson who was the cook when my 80 year old mother attended school there and was there when I went to school.
