Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Pie
Ingredients
1 unbaked 9 inch pie shell4 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1 stick butter
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 F. Place sliced apples in pie shell. Mix 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon and cloves and sprinkle over apples. Combine lemon juice and vanilla and sprinkle over apples. For crumb crust, mix 1/2 cup sugar and flour. Cut the butter into the sugar and flour mixture using a fork, pastry blender or food processor. Sprinkle over the top of pie. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes. If the pie begins to brown too rapidly, cover lightly with foil. Makes 8 servings.Tart apples work best with this recipe.
