Buttermilk Brownies
These brownies eat more like a cake. I had to add more buttermilk to the icing to get it to spread easier.
Ingredients
1 cup water
1 cup butter
1/2 cup cocoa
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup butter
3 tablespoons buttermilk
3 tablespoons cocoa
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 and grease a 12 x 15 jelly roll pan. In a small saucepan, combine water, butter, and cocoa. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, soda, and salt. Stir in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Add cocoa mixture to flour mixture and mix well. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes or until brownies test done. For the frosting, combine butter, buttermilk, and cocoa in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat stirring constantly. Remove from heat, beat in powdered sugar and vanilla stirring until smooth and spread immediately over warm brownies. Cool and cut into bars. Makes 20 servings.
