Chocolate Sheet Cake
This a recipe from the kitchen of Vira Jo Atkinson.
Ingredients
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup water
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
3 tablespoons cocoa
6 tablespoons milk
1 pound box of powdered sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease and flour a 10 x 15 inch sheet pan. Combine sugar and flour in a large mixing bowl. In a medium saucepan, stir butter, shortening, cocoa and water until the boiling point. Pour over sugar and flour mixture. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, vanilla and cinnamon to batter. Stir until well combined. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes. For icing, melt butter, cocoa and milk in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until smooth. Pour over warm cake and spread to edges. Makes 24 servings.
